MurMal – when art stimulates sense of community and creates work-experience placements
Paris has them. Berlin has them. Mexico City has them. And Philadelphia has more than 3,600 of them: Murals.
Using colours, motifs, art and paint, it has been shown that art on urban facades creates a sense of security. And the more residents and the local community are involved in the process, the greater their sense of ownership of both the work of art and their neighbourhood.
That is why the Jyske Bank Group, together with clients and a number of other partners, has been involved in Mural since 2010. The aim is a better image, greater peace of mind and, not least, work-experience placements for young people on vocational training programmes. Citizens are actively involved in an artistic process assisted by several partners, which ultimately results in a large mural.
The partnership typically consists of private companies, an artist, a local authority, a housing association and apprentices from a local vocational college participate as part of their training.
